Where are some places one might travel to in a boat?

I have to write a story for English, so where might people go on their boat? Such as the Carribean Islands, etc. Also, what type of boat might someone own if they were a Marine Biologist? Like a yacht or something, a big one but I can't remember what they are called? Thanks :D
