It sounds like you are confusing the broader category of "Creationists" with a particular type of traditional American Young Earth Creationists who promote a relatively recent brand of Fundamentalist Christianity and a view of Genesis that presumes that Hebrew YOM in Genesis 1 must be interpreted as "24 hour day" and that the Noahic Flood was global.
